Teachers are the lynchpin to success in all schools. Yet, too many young people are advised not to become teachers and shortages exist in key areas of teaching: STEM, special education, and among African American males.
Meet Grow a Teacher! Grow a Teacher’s mission is to inspire the next generation to teach. Through hands-on experiences, mentoring, building a lesson, teaching it and reflecting on what worked and what didn’t, young people in grades pre-K through 12 will get to know first-hand the hard work and joy of teaching. Grow a Teacher lessons will be created by teachers for teachers based on standards and steeped in deeper and social/emotional learning. Whether or not these students follow the teaching path, they will walk away with a stronger appreciation of teaching, as well as skills that are transferable to other careers.
